Andy Wei is a barrister sole specialising in serious criminal defence. He is approved by the Ministry of Justice as a PAL 4 criminal lawyer, the highest level of legal aid accreditation in New Zealand, and holds further approval to appear in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

Andy regularly defends clients in complex jury trials in New Zealand courts. His practice covers serious allegations, including serious violence, sexual offences, drug importation and large scale organised crime offending, money laundering, and regulatory prosecutions.

Andy is highly sought after for high-stakes bail applications, criminal appeals, and Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act litigation. Based in Auckland, he accepts private instructions from throughout New Zealand and is known for fighting relentlessly to achieve the best possible outcome for every client.

Fluent in English and Mandarin, Andy brings valuable bi-cultural insight and language skills to his practice, particularly in cases involving cultural or international elements.

Stella works closely with Andy Wei in his criminal defence practice. She supports Andy across the full range of chambers work and appears in a wide variety of criminal matters in the District Court, including bail applications, sentencing matters, case review hearings, and defended hearings.

Stella brings sharp attention to detail, thorough preparation, and clear communication to every matter. She regularly assists with legal research, disclosure analysis, trial preparation, and drafting submissions and court documents. She is developing a strong practice in criminal defence and regularly works on complex and serious criminal matters alongside Andy. Stella is committed to providing practical, client-focused representation and demonstrates genuine care for each client and their family throughout the court process.

Tracy Ma

Practice Manager

Tracy manages the day-to-day operations of the practice, including client onboarding, bookings, billing, and file coordination. She is often the first point of contact for new instructions and works closely with clients and instructing solicitors to ensure matters progress smoothly and efficiently.

Tracy is also a Licensed Immigration Adviser under the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007. She has extensive experience advising on immigration matters, particularly where criminal charges may lead to immigration issues. She regularly assists clients facing both criminal and immigration matters and is frequently instructed by other lawyers to provide expert opinions to the Court regarding the immigration consequences of conviction for applications under section 106 of the Sentencing Act 2002. Tracy is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
